Documentary Review
MMR: What They Didn't Tell You (2004)
January 4, 2024

Shoutout to Brian Deer for putting this documentary on his YouTube channel for free, and for doing such insane research and writing the craziest nonfiction book I have ever read. This past summer I read his book The Doctor Who Fooled the World, which details the MMR vaccine scandal and Andrew Wakefield's rise and fall in much more detail than a 50-minute documentary could ever hope to achieve, but this works as a pretty effective summary. I watched it with my parents, and I really don't think Fudenberg's bone marrow pills got the proper reaction from them. When I learned that shit I had to put the book down and yell "WHAT" into the void of my apartment because genuinely what the hell. I really enjoyed the footage of Wakefield practically sprinting away from the camera, and I have to imagine that his whatever office in America had a little photo of Deer in the break room with the caption "IF SEEN: PLAY DUMB."

Anyways, a must-see if you don't want to read a book. The book was better though.
